Who we are

VerifAI (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an AI-powered fact-checking service operated from the United Kingdom. Our service is accessible at verifai-it.com and the VerifAI web application.

You can contact us at: verifai-it@outlook.com

This policy applies to all users of our website and web application and explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data. We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to operate the service.

  • Email address — only if you voluntarily submit your email to join our iOS app waitlist. We do not require an account or email address to use the web app.
  • Video URLs — you submit a URL to fact-check. We process this URL to retrieve and analyse the video content. We do not store your submitted URLs after the fact-check is complete.
  • Technical data — standard server logs may temporarily record your IP address and browser type as part of normal web server operation. These logs are not used for profiling and are deleted routinely.

We do not collect your name, payment details, social media credentials, or any sensitive personal data.

How we use your data

  • Email address: used solely to notify you when the VerifAI iOS app becomes available. We will not use your email for any other purpose without your explicit consent.
  • Video URLs: processed in real time to provide fact-check results. Not stored after your session ends.
  • Technical logs: used for security monitoring and maintaining service availability.

Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

We process your data on the following lawful bases:

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): when you submit your email address to the iOS waitlist, you are giving us consent to contact you for that specific purpose. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing us.
  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): we process technical log data for the legitimate interest of securing and maintaining our service.

Automated processing and AI

VerifAI uses artificial intelligence to analyse video content and assess factual claims. The fact-check results produced are automated outputs and are not reviewed by a human before being shown to you.

These results are provided for informational purposes only and do not constitute legal, journalistic, or professional advice. AI systems can make errors. You should always exercise your own judgement and consult primary sources before drawing conclusions.

This automated processing does not produce decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Data sharing and third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

We use the following third-party services as data processors:

  • Notion: we store iOS waitlist email addresses in a Notion database. Notion is bound by its own privacy policy and acts as a data processor on our behalf.
  • Vercel: our website and web application are hosted on Vercel. Vercel may process technical data as part of hosting services.
  • Deepgram:video audio is transcribed using Deepgram's API. Audio content is transmitted to Deepgram for transcription and is not retained by Deepgram beyond their standard processing terms.

We may disclose data if required to do so by law or by a court order.

Data retention

  • Email addresses are retained until the iOS app launches and notifications have been sent, or until you request deletion, whichever comes first.
  • Video URLs and search data are not stored after your session.
  • Server logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to data portability — request your data in a portable format.
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw your email submission consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at verifai-it@outlook.com. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.
